1570, Margaretha van der Capellen

 The first owners of Engelenburg Castle were Jacob Schimmelpenninck van der Oye and his wife Margaretha van der Capellen. In those days, wine already played an important part in our house, as they exported German wines to the Baltic States. The Prince of Orange stayed at Engelenburg Castle, which illustrates the importance of the castle and its owners in society.
