Activities
Engelenburg is synonymous with golf, yet there’s so much more to it. A myriad of traditional and modern country pursuits are available on Engelenburg’s 250 acres of exquisitely maintained woodland and parkland. Qualified professional instructors provide tuition, allowing guests to try their hand at archery, clay pigeon shooting, crossbow shooting, black powder shooting, hot air ballooning and falconry.
For a more high energy challenge, the hotel is miles ahead with its fully motorised teambuilding that puts guests in the driver’s seat of an array of vehicles from a racing Mini Cooper to a 4 wheel drive tractor and plough. Engelenburg’s events field can accommodate anything from human table football to a medieval sword clinic, with unlimited opportunities for fun. Naturally, horses have always played an important role at our castle and many activities that involve horses are still organised at our estate.
Our sommelier specialises in South African wines and invites you to his wine cellar for a cheese and wine tasting. Through word of mouth, his presentation has become very popular as an indescribable mix of fun and serious tasting. Another passion of our team is Scottish Single Malt whisky. With a collection of over 300 different malts it is most certainly one of the biggest in the Netherlands. We gladly share this passion with our guests with our unique tasting experience. You could say the taste is what it is all about – but it’s also about understanding the differences between a malt from the Highlands, Islay or Speyside.
Why not book our tutored wine tasting dinners hosted by our Chef Sommelier Jurgen Luppes, featuring some of the best importers and producers of fine wine in South Africa?
The evening includes a welcome reception with oysters and sparkling wine, a delicious but informal dinner in our Wine Cellar, prepared by our Executive Chef Maurice Kersten. Enjoy an evening full of joy, good wines and food amongst friends, family or colleagues in a great ambience.
